Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Repair

This surgery replaces the weak section of the aorta with a tubular graft made of fabric. During the procedure, the surgeon makes a large incision from the lower chest to below the navel and locates the aneurysm. The surgeon then cuts through it and cleans out any clots before sewing the graft inside the aorta. The walls of the aorta are wrapped around the graft and sewn shut and the abdominal incision is then closed. Because this surgery is demanding, not everyone is a good candidate for it. An endovascular graft may be a better solution for some.
